One Of The Boys (2008) Katy Perry

Katy Perry is the late 2000s version of the sassy pop-rocker wielding girl power like an Uzi. Blending elements of Alanis Morissette, Britney Spears, and Gwen Stefani, Perry's 2008 debut, ONE OF THE BOYS, bashes metrosexuals ("Ur So Gay"), flaunts lesbian experimentation ("I Kissed a Girl"), and celebrates spontaneous road trips ("Waking Up in Vegas"). Thanks to a cadre of top-shelf producers, including Desmond Child, Dave Stewart, and Glen Ballard (who also produced Morissette), ONE OF THE BOYS glitters like spun cotton candy, but it's Perry's bold, topical songs and in-your-face attitude that help the album pack a punch.

Perry's 'Girl' Topples U.K. Singles Chart

Katy Perry's U.S. No. 1 "I Kissed a Girl" (Virgin/EMI) became the U.K.'s new No. 1 single yesterday to complete a transatlantic double, while ABBA's "Gold -- Greatest Hits" (Polydor/Universal) maintained its hold over the album chart.

Perry's single was rush-released in Britain in the middle of the previous chart week, leading to a No. 4 debut, and its move to the top restricted Kid Rock's reign at No. 1 with "All Summer Long" (Atlantic/Warner Music) to just one week.

The highest new entry of the week was the Verve's reunion single "Love Is Noise" (Parlophone/EMI) at No. 5, the band's fourth U.K. top 10 hit almost 11 years after its last. Noah and the Whale's "5 Years Time" (Vertigo/Universal) climbed 10-7 and Rihanna's current No. 3 Hot 100 hit, "Disturbia" (Def Jam/Universal), raced 34-9 on download sales.

The ABBA compilation has now topped the chart for an aggregate of eight weeks on five separate occasions, the first in October 1992. It had three runs at the summit between April and June of 1999. Below it on the new listings, Duffy's "Rockferry" (A&M/Universal) moved back 3-2 to change places with Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Parlophone/EMI).

Sharleen Spiteri's "Melody" (Mercury/Universal) reversed last week's 5-7 move to climb back into the top five, while Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" (Def Jam/Universal) improved 11-9. The only new titles in the top 40 were English reggae newcomer Natty's "Man Like I" (Atlantic/Warner Music) at No. 21 and an eponymous album from Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst at No. 37 (Wichita Recordings).

Katy Perry Starts Sixth Week Atop Hot 100

Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" begins a sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with digital sales of 151,000 copies keeping the song of the summer ahead of Rihanna's "Take a Bow" at No. 2 and Chris Brown's "Forever" at No. 3.

Another Rihanna song, "Disturbia," races 15-4 thanks to digital sales of 122,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" and Lil Wayne's "A Milli" hold at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, while Wayne's "Lollipop" featuring Static Major slides 4-7.

Kardinal Offishall's "Dangerous" featuring Akon rises 9-8, Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" declines 6-9 and Jesse McCartney's "Leavin'" remains No. 10 to round out the top portion of the Hot 100.

Estelle's "American Boy" featuring Kanye West is the chart's top digital gainer after selling 84,000 downloads. The cut jumps 26-16, a new peak for the U.K. vocalist.

Shwayze's "Corona and Lime" is the top debut at No. 26 after digital sales of more than 74,000. The act is the subject of the new MTV reality series "Buzzin'," with a track of the same name also soaring 93-46 thanks to sales of 55,000 downloads.

Also new this week is Miley Cyrus' "Breakout" at No. 56. It's the title track of her new Hollywood album, which debuted yesterday at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Keyshia Cole's "Heaven Sent" continues its rule over Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for an eighth week. On that tally, Lil Wayne sets a new record by placing 13 titles as a lead or featured artist this week. He surpasses T.I.'s previous mark of 11, set in February.

Alan Jackson is No. 1 on Hot Country Songs for a second week with "Good Time," while Foo Fighters begin a second week atop the Modern Rock chart with "Let It Die." Disturbed's "Inside the Fire" rules the Mainstream Rock roundup for a 13th week.
